Thermal CTP Plate Process

Thermal ctp plate is a type of thermographic plate. The plate making process includes substrate preparing, exposure, preheat treatment, development&fixing, plate baking and finished thermal ctp plate. Infrared laser imaging is adopted for the plates. The plate material is basically similar to that of high-sensitivity resin plate, but the two have different imaging principles. The substrate does not have a PVA protective layer, and the resin layer has no sensitizing dyes but an infrared absorbing dye. Exposure refers to the irradiating of infrared lasers which are first absorbed by the infrared absorbing dye that further converts the light energy into heat energy, and the cross-linking reaction can be generated by the heat of the crosslinked resin to form a graphic latent image.

The process of pre-heat treatment is carried out after exposure, and the substrate is heated to a temperature of 120 degrees centigrade, and the heating time is generally kept around 1 minute to accelerate the crosslinking reaction of the resin layer at the exposed portion, so that the image is insoluble in alkaline water during development. The solvent resistance of the image film layer is also enhanced during the process, which makes the film layer less susceptible to dissolution by alcohol dampening solution or other solvents. The process of development is carried out with an alkali water to remove a resin layer in which the non-exposed portion does not undergo polymerization, and then fix the plate with a fixing solution. In order to improve the durability of the thermal ctp plate, it can be baked at the temperature of 250 degrees centigrade for 3 minutes, which extends its printing durability to 1 million impressions.
