Chemical Polishing of Mirror Finish Aluminum Sheet

As known to all, there are two types of aluminum mirror sheet: polished sheet and anodized sheet. Whatever type a piece of mirror finish aluminum sheet is, its substrate has to go through the polishing process. We have discussed mechanical polishing in a previous article, and here we will deal with chemical polishing.

Steps for chemical polishing of an aluminum sheet is as below.
1. Sample preparation: The sample sheet is cleaned.
2. Chemical polishing solution preparation: Chemical polishing solution should be prepared in a beaker. Chemical polishing solution formula should be selected according to the sheet material. Distilled water and chemical pure reagent should be used for the solution.
Some water-insoluble drugs need to be heated to dissolve. Hydrogen peroxide and hydrofluoric acid are highly corrosive. Operators should be careful not to injure themselves when mixing them. After the chemical polishing solution is used, the metal ions in the solution increase and the polishing effect decreases. If the effect is slow and the bubbles decrease, a new solution should be applied.
3. Sample sheets are immersed in the polishing solution with bamboo or wood clips, stirred and removed in time until they meet polishing requirements.
4. After the step of chemical polishing, the mirror finish aluminum sheet should be cleaned and dried immediately.
Generally speaking, the effect of chemical polishing is not so good as that of mechanical polishing. A mirror finish aluminum sheet by mechanical polishing can reach a smooth finish of 0.002mm which can never be realized by chemical polishing. What’s more, chemical solution evaporates in the air, bringing about environmental pollution. Therefore, mechanical polishing is a better choice.
