Mirror Finish Aluminum Sheet Surface Treatment Methods

Generally speaking, there are seven methods for surface treatment of aluminum sheets: polishing, sandblasting, metal plating, wire drawing, coating, embossing and anodizing. In fabricating of mirror finish aluminum sheet, however, it entails only two methods: polishing and anodizing. Polishing refers to the process of obtaining flat bright surfaces of aluminum sheets by reducing their roughness using mechanical, chemical or electro-chemical methods. Superior polished aluminum mirror sheet reaches a reflective effect similar to stainless steel, giving simple, grand and fashionable senses. But it’s easy for people to leave fingerprints on the the sheet surface. In contrast, the mirror anodized aluminum sheet has a much better performance. Anodizing refers to the process of electro-chemical for aluminum sheets on whose surfaces an oxide film forms under the action of applied current under the corresponding electrolyte and specific technological conditions. It aims to solve the defects of aluminium sheets in surface hardness and wear resistance, prolong the sheets’ service life enhance their beauty. Mirror anodized aluminum sheets are more resistant to scratches and corrosion than polished aluminum mirror sheets.

The traditional manufacturing process for a mirror finish aluminum sheet is to polish it first and then anodize it. With people’s increasingly stringent requirements on the appearance of electronic consumer products, it’s difficult for manufacturers to meet requirements of “super brightness and mirror surface” simply by the traditional grinding process. With the continuous improvement of technology, it is found that the mirror finish aluminum sheet going through anodizing before being polished is more likely to meet such requirements. However, regular polishing processes by wax, fluid or magnet would damage the anodized layer of aluminum sheets. That’s the very reason why the traditional manufacturing process has always left anodizing at the end of the whole process. It’s said that such a technology has been developed that it’s possible to polish an anodized aluminum sheet without destroying its anodizing film, which will benefit our life a lot.
